Bohemian Essentials

Globally inspired

You might be surprised that I’m writing about Boho style.  What I usually write about is classic, timeless and elegant interiors.    However, inspiration can be found anywhere, there is something quite appealing about it.  While the Boho style is quite unconventional and eclectic in nature, what remains timeless about the Bohemian style is that it still follows great design principles.  A very personal and sentimental style in that it is inspired by goods often found on their travels abroad often to Turkey, Morocco, India and even Mexico.  These are time-worn although not damaged and “more is more” seems to be the mantra.  Layered style that invites everyone in to take a comfortable seat and join in the conversation.  Rest a while.  I think I’m being lulled already.

Color

Color is the first element of Boho style that jumps out to me.  Starting out with a warm and earthy palette layered in with bolder, saturated jewel tones

Modern versions have whites layered in.

Textiles

Textiles are part of its signature style.  Think worn, and overdyed Persian and Turkish rugs in bold, unconventional colors combinations.  Kilims, an oriental rug in its own catagory is a tightly woven flat weave rug.  Boho style uses it on the floor layered with other orientals and sisals or even on the wall as art.

Navajo Blankets are highly sought after elements from the Four Corners area, and are beautiful and the end of bed to add color and pattern.

Overdyed rugs are vintage rugs that have been dyed over the original so that it brings new life to the rug.  What a great way to up cycle!

Accessories & Furnishings

Of course, we can’t forget the finishing touches.  Great lighting, plants, and baskets are great ways to bring it all together.

Macrame has found a new home this classically shaped chandeliers rather than the dated macrame hanging plant holders of the 70’s. And copper brings a fresh perspective to this mini pendant grouping.

Colorful baskets are a great way to add dimension to your walls.

Don’t forget that quality, top grain leather can play a big part and in modern ways.  The clean lines of Mid-Century Modern play especially well with the revised classics of Boho.

Plants

No bohemian-styled home would be complete without great plants that clean the air,  & bring life to any room.  This realistic faux silk fiddle fig brings life without the hassle and the upkeep.

A great way to hang plants is these cute globes holding succulents. Another great way to bring life that needs little care. Just spray the real succulents once a week (if that) and dust the globes during your weekly cleaning.

What does scent have to do with interiors?  Everything!  Interior design must hit all the senses.  What better scent than patchouli being diffuse to give your home a more relaxed ease at the end of a long hard day.

Look at this sleek diffuser that adds a modern touch.

Candlelight around the room add to the welcoming and comfy ambiance.

By infusing exciting color thru textiles, paint and accessories and a memorable scent you can have your home to have that something extra special to create the home of your dreams.
