It’s getting Warmer…

Hello There Design Aficionados!

My husband and I just returned from our summer vacation to Townsend, Tennessee; the Peaceful side of the Smokies. I have to say it was the most relaxing vacation I think I’ve had. We did manage to visit the Tuckaleechee Caverns and Cades Cove. Most of the time was spent in the mountain cabin back porch looking out on to the mountains. The landscape was ever changing. It was wonderful and I highly recommend it. And if you know me at all, I spent a good portion reading.

Our view from our cabin.

On our way home we made a detour to the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. What a beautiful car! My man is a car guy deep in his soul so he really took his time and enjoyed every bit. I especially thought the very first Corvette was quite elegant.

Color of the Year 2023

Back to reality and the land of interior design. Usually I watch for the color of the year to be revealed in October. But I’ve noticed that everything is just happening quicker and quicker. Why we aren’t even done with summer and I’m seeing reels for pumpkin everything! So I guess we have entered Color of the Year Season.

A week or so ago Behr decided to reveal…black pepper. They are very much embracing the Black and White Trend. Every 10 years the trends change. Right now we are in the height of this trend. I might have already tired of it. Have you? Yes, this room is beautifully done, I am just a bit color hungry.

Like I was saying, everyone is tired of gray. We are so over gray everything. Most of you will say that the overuse of gray makes a room look flat, or dead. I have to agree. Our rooms ought to come alive. So last Sherwin Williams last year revealed Redend Point. Another dead looking color that didn’t take off. This year they decided to warm it up and give us a color that would warm up our homes again. Make us want to become homebodies again.

Sherwin Williams Persimmon SW6339 is the answer to this!

“Grounded, earthy origins, to deliver a shade that feels both uplifting and refreshing. An earthy terracotta infused with tangerine tones, naturally inspired colors like perfect Persimmon are being incorporated to soften spaces and add a personal touch to the home”

What do you think? Personally this is a beautiful room however I might change the sofa color and soften the white tones to more of a creamy white.

Would you embrace it?

Sherwin Williams has paired Persimmon with Softer Tan. Since I am a Benjamin Moore girl I like Standish White very much.

I have seen mixed reviews on the color. Change can be hard. One follower thought we ought to combine Behr’s COTY and SW COTY for a go to color palette. Well, I think that can be a good start. Persimmon certainly warms up all the black we are have all over social media.

Most people are slow to change. Real change starts small. Personally, even as a person who prefers cooler color, I think I could embrace this color. Because Persimmon is a warm and muted color our go to neutrals will need to shift.

Psychology of Color

Color Psychology states “The overall friendliness of orange makes it an ideal choice for rooms where people gather, but it’s also well suited for front doors that welcome guests into your home. From the bright citrusy hues to the muted earth tones, this happy hue’s versatility allows it to work well with a number of different design styles.”

How to Use

Lets unpack this orange tone. As a True Color Expert I would describe this color warm and muted with a medium saturation. All great color palettes start with this evaluation. Color is so refreshing! Our environment and how it reflects us is so important. Color affects our mood and don’t you want to be happy in your home?

To embrace this color into your home, add it as your accent color with wall art, pillows, a throw, maybe some fun accent chairs too. Persimmon is the color of terra cotta pots, and tile. It is quite traditional. Have fun with it! It will definitely warm up your overdone gray or Black and White interiors.
