Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2023

A Look Back

I look forward to this time of year. The time of year that all of the major paint brands come out with their color of the year. This is an exciting time of year for those who follow the color trends. I have watched the other paint companies, But, when Benjamin Moore pulls back the curtain on their choice, I have to admit my heart quickens just a bit in anticipation! I was literally counting down to 1 pm on the 12 of October. Promptly, I went to my email and opened it up.

But, lets recap first. 2020 was First Light 2102-70

" a soft rosy hue that Benjamin Moore described as representing a new dawn of idealism." Then the pandemic hit.

When there is an economic down turn historically we turn to the turquoise family. Benjamin Moore did not disappoint.

In 2021 Aegean Teal 2136-40 was a "balanced soothing hue that creates natural harmony."

Hmmm. We were heading into the second year of isolation. Were you feeling harmonious? Probably not.

2022 was kind of a delightful surprise with October Mist 1495, a gently shaded sage.

Not the sage of the 90’s (think Saybrook Sage HC-114)

October Mist was a more modern sage; deeper and more grayed. What was particularly delightful to me was that most of the major paint companies came out with their version of sage green for their COTY! I knew we would begin to see green everywhere. Were things really looking up. Were we getting out of our masks for real? I was more than a bit tired of the black and white period. Not that that is wrong, its not I just grew weary of the lack of color. I was hopeful. A new beginning. I suppose in the mass market I did begin to see a bit more color.

But I digress, you probably tuned in for this years COTY!

First Impression

I opened my email to find

Raspberry Blush! Bold, Saturated, Coral! Wow, I love it!

Raspberry Blush? To me the name implies a cool undertone. Like Prince’s Raspberry Beret. Or,

Like the fruit. The ones that I would pick off the the bramble bush outside Grandma and Grandpa’s back door. I’d eat so many til I couldn’t eat any more!

This Raspberry Blush is warm yet still a crisp color rather than muted. It's described as a vivacious shade of coral with a tinge of pink by Benjamin Moore. I have to say we have not seen any version of a red embraced for quite some time. I also have to say I believe I like this color better than the other paint companies COTY 2023 .

Benjamin Moore even commissioned a song. You guys, you know how much I think in music. So exciting. They partnered with electro-funk duo Chromeo to celebrate positivity and the enjoyment of life (Joie de Vivre).
